There is a lot of family involvement in my photos. Its not just me, because me taking photos takes time out of my family's time; and that is something we don't have a lot of. With me at back at school taking 12 hours and starting this weekend working almost 20 hours a week, plus homework. You get my drift. So we can spend a few minutes perusing the photos of the day and talking about what we like, what we don't like and why. Hopefully it gives my kids and little art education and my husband a little appreciation of it.
Well this afternoon, my kids and I took off after school to the Dallas Arboretum, took a ton of shots and everyone liked this one. What we didn't agree on was the processing. So I'm going to ask you guys. Which one do you prefer and why. Don't hesitate to offer your opinion - be specific. I won't tell you which one I preferred, but I will tell you NO ONE agreed with my processing.
So......

I like the first one - mainly because the tones give the feeling of a time of day, or a warmth, glow of sun. I love the b/w as well - it's a really cool shot regardless of the processing - very nice reflection. But I get a different "feeling" when I look at the first vs. the second.
I think it's wonderful that you bring your family in to discuss your photos! What a great way to keep them into your time and passion! For me, shooting is a very solitary process. Sometimes my husband follows me around when I am out shooting, and I find it inhibits me - as I'm thinking "oh gosh, he's bored" or "he's cold" - or he's pointing out things for me to shoot at... LOL! Bless his heart! But I'm glad you can find that great balance!
I'm going to have to agree with Yolanda. I like the mossy/algea look. Are those Birch trees? Just wondering. Although I believe black and white takes a picture from just a being a 'photo' and it's more towards 'art'.
Sometimes I ask which one my family likes best but then I get angry when they pick the one that's out of focus! LOL So I usually never use their pick. I always feel rushed when I'm out shooting with them. So, that doesn't happen much either.
Both are great!
I see now that the black lines are actually in the water, not on the trees. But I'd still like to know what kind of tree! LOL
I'm loving your reflection pictures.
Dijea, Loving the first shot, the colour give it so much more depth.
