OBSTACLES

I want you to pronounce it ob-STACK-les.  Like in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou...?  I don't know why, but I do.  I'm in that mood tonight and I've been fighting many obstacles lately.  Almost like trying to find a path through these tree roots.  Finding the right balance of time between, school, work, kids and self is not always easy.  I've got a lot on my plate as usual and am looking forward to spending a quiet summer with my family without school commitments.  I know I'll get there, just not sure if I'll still be sane.

I played with the TeleMacro today.  It's an old 35mm lens.  I mostly shoot on manual, but with this I have to adjust shutter & F stops all in my mind.  I can't use A/S/P at all only Manual.  But with the exception of a few shots - the foggy shots I did really well with my relationships in that respect.  I loved the color here and I really loved the change in the veins on the leaf underneath the water drops.  Lots of fun experimenting today - and I met a friend.  Isn't he cute?

I worked today so when I got home I ran outside and took a shot.  This is what you get sometimes, when there is no planning.  But to be honest, I love the tree branches against the fading light in the sky and the wispy clouds.  So sometimes it works out A-OK.

Day 356: A different view

I usually hug the tree and shoot up, this time I put my back to it.  Its lovely to try a different perspective.

I challenged David Abbishaw to a week of color photography.  So I am shooting a week of Black & White.  Its the least I can do.

I was walking down the street and I noticed some of the veins on the leaves of this oak were so pronounced I had to go grab my camera.  I hope you didn't expect blood....

Day 212: The Road to Know-Where

Do you ever look up and stare at a tree?  Its branches are like paths - you hit a fork and you choose.  It doesn't matter which way you go; there is no right or wrong only choices.  Sometimes if you look long enough you aren't thinking about choices anymore your mind just wanders where it wants to go and the stress leaves your body and your mind is where it wants to be.  Sometimes you have to know where it is you want to be before you can choose a path.

And sometimes, you just find a little peace staring up at the branches of a tree.

Day 125: Reflections

There is a lot of family involvement in my photos.  Its not just me, because me taking photos takes time out of my family's time; and that is something we don't have a lot of. With me at back at school taking 12 hours and starting this weekend working almost 20 hours a week, plus homework.  You get my drift.  So we can spend a few minutes perusing the photos of the day and talking about what we like, what we don't like and why.  Hopefully it gives my kids and little art education and my husband a little appreciation of it.  

Well this afternoon, my kids and I took off after school to the Dallas Arboretum, took a ton of shots and everyone liked this one.  What we didn't agree on was the processing.  So I'm going to ask you guys.  Which one do you prefer and why.  Don't hesitate to offer your opinion - be specific.  I won't tell you which one I preferred, but I will tell you NO ONE agreed with my processing.

Day 124: A victim.

Last week with 12.5" of snow - Dallas lost a ton of trees, limbs etc.  I went to the park today for a minute before picking up the kids.  I found this big old tree broken, but the wood was such a beautiful color I had to shoot it.  Who knew it would be the photo of the day.
