Day 40: I was moving when I took this.

Sometimes the photos we almost didn't take are the ones that turn out well, to surprise us. I took this out the open window of the car as my husband was driving down the street. I didn't think, I didn't look at angles or lights - I saw something I liked and snapped. Sometimes that's what makes a photo worth it.

Day 39: Remembrance

Do you recognize this spot? Maybe, maybe not. This was taken from the top of Dealey Plaza looking down. The underpass on the right would be where the limo went after Kennedy was shot. I've lived in Dallas for 17 years, and today was the first time I actually went there. It was a dreary grey day, misting. I snapped pictures from all angles, this was the one with the least amount of traffic - for some reason this moved me more than the traditional shot. Although it's not 11/22 - I think this year there was less of a tribute than usual, so here is mine. For some reason, today was just a B&W kind of day.

Day 38: Shine your light upon thee

Couldn't resist the title. The front side of this church is much more appealing with beautiful stained glass. This one moved my husband - he saw it an immediately said this was today's photo. Far be it from me to not post a photo that moves someone.

Day 37: Obstacles

I can never see that word, obstacles, without thinking of George Clooney's pronunciation in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou. Ob-Stack-les. Maybe it is my way of laughing in the face of adversity, making fun of the trials and tribulations we face. I think laughter may be the best medicine.

Day 36: Let there be light

This is what happens when you spend all your day on Thanksgiving eating instead of taking pictures. After looking through the few pictures I actually took before stuffing my face I found that I didn't like anything. So playing with my camera in my room I shot this, not knowing that it would be my photo of the day.

Day 34: I saw the Light

Day 33: The weight of the world.

Day Three of my trip we spent hiking in Government Canyon. Beauty was at every turn, but Spanish moss is not a usual occurrence in Texas. It was so overloaded that it looked like it was holding the weight of the world on its branches.

Reading: (because I failed to bring my manual) Understanding Exposure.

Day 32: Found Art

I imagine this could have several titles. Sunday, we all visited Great Grandma and while killing time between breakfast & lunch I took the kids to the park, and remembered the camera. I found this just as it shows, on a concrete bench. It made me sigh and imagine the person who put it there and why.

Reading: Understanding Exposure.

Day 31: Home Sweet Home

Saturday was a traveling day for me - I got to my parents home late so I just had a few minutes to find a shot. Ta Da. The bird house was in the right spot at the right time.

Reading: I've been working on Understanding Exposure.

Day 30:

I love water lilies, and usually when I see one at my favorite pond they are purple or white. This was a nice combination of the two and captured my eye.

Images: I keep up with all the 365'ers, but Joan Allen's Blog was where I lingered today. She is quite talented.

Manual: Starting over at the beginning. Getting to know the camera.

Day 29: Morning Rose

Today did not yield the photo I was hoping for - I wanted to take the backside of a rose. I ran to the Dallas Arboretum (my favorite place to shoot) 1st thing this morning. I found the perfect specimen and it was too pretty to take from behind.

I have failed in my manual reading of late - I am going on a 4 day trip I'm taking my D90 manual, my Scott Kelby book, Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson (Kelby recommended) and my Lightroom book. With no TV in the bedroom I'm staying in I'll get a lot of reading done.

24/365 3rd in a Week of Unedited Photos

What's so special about a rose? Well and unedited rose, or any flower is not easy, or maybe it is depending on your talent. But to make a rose pop, have detail and clarity with out tweaking just a little is hard for me. I think I did a good job with this one - it has definition & clarity and the background is dark enough to pop it out. It might be twice as good edging up the black to somewhere between 5 & 10, but for no edit - I'm quite happy.

22/365: 1st in a week of unedited photos.

So in this day and age of Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop...or whatever you choose, what happened to the photographer who just took a picture and that was it. I'm challenging myself to a week of unedited photos. YES, UNEDITED. I challenge you to do the same, or maybe just one day. I'm not saying give up editing - just try it you might find it a challenge.

13/365: Reflections

It was a perfect morning on the lake - no wind, the lake wasn't moving and not a cloud in the sky. Almost every photo I took was perfect - the rest of my favorites from this morning are on my flickr site. Go visit.
